EFCC Arrests TikTok User Over False Claims of Kidnapped Officers in Kwara

Date: 2026-04-02

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested a TikTok user following allegations made in late December about the kidnapping of EFCC operatives in Kwara State.

In a statement on Wednesday signed by the agency's Director of Public Relations and Protocol, Dr Suleiman Haruna, the TikTok user, identified as Udoma David Ekeh, known as @davysoft231, allegedly claimed in a video that officers of the Ilorin Zonal Directorate were kidnapped by bandits during an EFCC raid in Kwara State.

He further alleged that the bandits demanded ransom from the commission before releasing the officers and suggested that the EFCC was unable to handle the situation effectively.

"EFCC has arrested Udoma David Ekeh, a TikTok user @davysoft231, for spreading false information about the commission and its officers.

"Ekeh, in December 2025, alerted the public that some operatives of the Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the commission were kidnapped by bandits whilst on an assignment in a location in Kwara State.

"He also insinuated that the bandits demanded huge ransom from the EFCC before releasing the purported officers," the statement read.

Checks by our correspondent confirmed the EFCC's account. The video, which has garnered 6,526 likes, 533 comments, and 138,800 views on TikTok, features Ekeh saying, "When water pass garri, una eye go clear. What EFCC is best at doing is to jump fence, jump window, pull burglary, go catch Yahoo boys.

"EFCC went to raid in Kwara. During the process of their raid, bandits kidnapped EFCC. Na for civilian hand them for get power. Una dey use muscle for Yahoo boys.

"To the dear bandits, ask for ransom oh… all those money, all those cars, gold, no leave anybody. Ask for better ransom, please, Nigeria will pay."

The EFCC described the video as misleading and dangerous, noting that it incited public fear and misrepresented the agency's ongoing efforts to tackle internet fraud.

"All his claims are fabricated, together with the use of his TikTok account to incite and misinform the public about the commission's relentless efforts in tackling the menace of internet fraud," the statement added.

The statement concluded that Ekeh's arrest followed preliminary investigations, which also revealed his involvement in a romance scam using a Facebook account to impersonate a foreigner named Garg Carta. The suspect is expected to face prosecution in court soon.
