Snakebites: Kwara Orders Immediate Anti-Snake Fumigation Across State

Date: 2026-03-09

The Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA) has directed all regulated premises, institutions, and residential building owners across the state to immediately carry out anti-snake fumigation as part of efforts to ensure the safety and wellbeing of residents.

The general manager of the KWEPA, Jide Aina, who issued the directive in a statement on Saturday, emphasised the urgent need for preventive measures following the increasing incidents of snake bites in various parts of the state.

Aina stated that proactive environmental safety practices are essential to protecting lives and maintaining a healthy environment for all residents.

He explained that the fumigation exercise is a precautionary measure aimed at reducing the presence of snakes around homes, offices, schools, and other regulated premises across the state.

He also urged residents to take personal responsibility by clearing bushes and overgrown vegetation around their homes and surroundings, which often serve as hiding places for snakes and other dangerous reptiles.

He stressed that strict adherence to environmental health and safety guidelines remains a crucial step in preventing environmental hazards.

Aina, therefore, called on community leaders, landlords, and residents to adhere strictly to government directives and participate actively in the ongoing campaign to create a safer and cleaner environment across the state.
