Residents of Oba community in Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State have called for urgent government intervention after armed bandits invaded the town on Wednesday night, killing a forest guard and abducting his wife.

The deceased, Raimi Ogunrinde, was among the local security guards recently deployed by the Kwara State Government to reinforce grassroots security architecture.

Community sources said the attackers stormed the area in a coordinated operation. Ogunrinde was reportedly shot dead during the assault, while his wife was taken away by the gunmen and remains in captivity.

In an emotional appeal, his daughter, Kafayat, disclosed that the family heard from the kidnappers in the early hours of Thursday.

"We just heard from them this morning. They are asking for N100 million. I can't explain this. I'm finished. I need help," she said tearfully.

Speaking on behalf of the traditional ruler, President of the Oba Development Association, Sunday Oladiji, described the incident as devastating and a major setback to local security efforts.

He said the late Ogunrinde had been a committed member of the community's security structure, safeguarding residents against banditry and related threats before his "unfortunate and untimely demise."

Oladiji lamented the deteriorating security situation and appealed to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to urgently intervene.

Confirming the attack, the Public Relations Officer of the Kwara State Police Command, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said security agencies were immediately mobilised to the area.
