No Movement In Gbugbu: Hon. Abdullahi Bello Declares Curfew To Protect Lives
The Executive Chairman of Edu Local Government Council, Hon. Abdullahi Bello, has declared an immediate 24-hour curfew on the Gbugbu community, including its popular international market, to facilitate ongoing security operations.
The directive, which took effect at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, was issued through a statement by the Edu LGA Council Media Team. The move aims to protect residents and their property while security forces conduct critical operations in the area.
Under the curfew, all human and vehicular movements are strictly prohibited until further notice. This decisive action follows recent reports of heightened military activity in the region, dubbed "Operation India," which has targeted bandit hideouts in the Gbugbu forest and surrounding communities in Edu, Ifelodun, and Patigi.
"This is a security decision made in the best interest of the public," the statement read. "We urge all residents to comply fully as the security forces continue their operations in areas of interest."
The Gbugbu market is one of the most significant commercial hubs in Kwara North, and its closure underscores the severity of the current security situation. The Kwara State Government, in collaboration with the military and police, has intensified efforts to neutralize non-state actors who have recently threatened the peace of border communities.
Local authorities have promised to communicate further reviews of the curfew as the security situation stabilizes.
