FG, Kwara Begin Selection Of 16 Health Fellows To Revamp Rural Clinics
The Federal Government, in collaboration with the Kwara State Government, has commenced the selection process for 16 Health Fellows to be deployed across all local government areas in the state. This initiative is part of the Sector-Wide Approach (SWAp), a strategic framework designed to revitalise Nigeria's healthcare system.
The recruitment falls under the National Health Fellows Programme (Cohort 2.0), an initiative approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The programme aims to engage young Nigerian professionals in all 774 local government areas nationwide to strengthen Primary Health Care (PHC) delivery and enhance data-driven health planning at the grassroots.
Speaking on Monday in Ilorin during the physical interview session for shortlisted candidates, the Kwara State SWAp Desk Officer, Dr. Ola Ahmed, explained that the fellows will play a critical role in monitoring medical commodities, verifying health data, and identifying gaps in service delivery.
"The programme is domiciled in the SWAp coordination office and is designed to ensure that our primary healthcare centres are repositioned for better performance," Dr. Ahmed noted. He emphasized that the selection process is strictly merit-based, ensuring that only the most competent young leaders are chosen to represent their respective LGAs.
The fellows, once selected and trained, will serve as essential links between community health challenges and state-level authorities, helping to drive the "Renewed Hope" health agenda in Kwara State.
