The First Makama of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Parents Teachers Association (PTA) joined a gathering of educators and government officials to mark the 2025 World Teachers' Day celebration in Ilorin.
The high profile event attracted numerous notable dignitaries, including the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (who is also the Sardauna Ngeri of Ilorin); the Emir of Ilorin, Mai Martaba Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, CFR; and the Honourable Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Muhammad Lawal Olohungbebe, among others present.
In his address, the First Makama of Ilorin lauded teachers across the state for their steadfast commitment to nurturing young minds and upholding the quality of education in Kwara. He specifically praised their sacrifices and resilience, imploring them to remain dedicated to their professional calling despite the hurdles currently faced within the education sector.
He also commended the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in the state for their robust advocacy work. Crucially, he called upon the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to engage with the government regarding the implementation of the proposed 70 year retirement age or 40 years of service policy for teachers. He underscored the vital importance of labour leaders consistently defending the rights and welfare of all workers.
A minute of silence was observed during the ceremony in honour of the late Chief Adeseko and other departed NUT elders, acknowledging their invaluable contributions to the advancement of education in the state.
The First Makama concluded his remarks by offering prayers for sustained peace, unity, and divine protection for both Kwara State and Nigeria as a whole. He sought Allah's blessings for national progress and a final end to the insecurity plaguing the nation.
