Community Leaders Back Superhighway Project to Boost Trade in Kwara, Niger States
The Lagos-Badagry Superhighway a flagship project approved under President Tinubu's administration has been hailed by communities in Kwara and Niger States as a transformative initiative poised to boost local economic activity. Stretching through Kwara, Niger, Sokoto, and Kebbi States, the highway traverses critical villages including Kada, Madele, Kusaka, Dongo Lamba, Auna, Kure, Madunguru, Yargu, Shafachi, New Kali (Kaiama Road), Yangba, Kwaroin, Federal College of Wildlife Management, Kontagora, Mairigyara, Janyau, Faku, and Kpatachi.
During a site survey by TSL Engineering Nigeria Ltd and the Federal Controller of Works (Minna Office) along the Kaiama corridor, Bala Ubandoma, Community Leader of New Kali in Borgu LGA, Niger State, voiced strong support: "This project will unlock trade, tourism, and agricultural markets for our villages. Better roads mean better livelihoods."
The superhighway, designed to enhance regional connectivity and stimulate commerce, aligns with Nigeria's broader infrastructure agenda to revitalise rural economies. Community leaders across Kwara and Niger States anticipate reduced transportation costs, improved access to markets, and accelerated development in previously isolated areas.
The consultant, Messrs TSL Engineering, before the survey, paid homage to the Emir of Borgu, where he solicited the support of the emirate in enlightening the affected communities for the successful conduct of the survey.
There is no doubt that the superhighway, which will pass through the mentioned communities, will improve economic and farming activities, as most of the inhabitants are farmers, fishermen, and traders.
No administration, after the Abacha administration that rehabilitated the Mokwa-Kainji road through the PTF, has undertaken any significant intervention until now.
The Tinubu administration is linking these communities with the superhighway.
Ubandoma commended the Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, and particularly Barr. Bello Muhammad Goronyo, who hails from one of the benefiting states, Sokoto.
Ubandoma called for support for Tinubu's road infrastructure projects, which are cutting across all parts of Nigeria.
He emphasised that, instead of unjustified criticisms, there is a need for proper inquiry into the projects being undertaken under President Tinubu.
"So far, the Kaiama-Kishi road awarded by Tinubu is ongoing. Similarly, the government/private sector-supported BUA Bode Saadu-Kaiama road is ongoing. President Tinubu has demonstrated commitment to the well-being of Nigerians and the delivery of democracy dividends," he said.
Ubandoma, however, implored President Tinubu to please re-award the Wawa-Kainji 62-kilometre road, which was abandoned by previous administrations. Kainji, Kaiama, and Baruten communities are predominantly farming communities.
