Kwara Police Revive X-Squad to Monitor Officer Conduct and Strengthen Accountability
Kwara State Police Commissioner Adekimi Ojo has announced plans to revive the X-Squad Unit to monitor the conduct of police officers across the state, aiming to strengthen accountability and discipline within the force.
The initiative was disclosed during an interactive session with journalists at the Police Officers' Mess in Ilorin on Tuesday. Commissioner Ojo stated: "The X-Squad will ensure our personnel adhere to ethical standards and professional protocols to rebuild public trust in law enforcement."
He also addressed the practice of parading suspects before the media, confirming that the state police command has ceased the procedure in compliance with directives from the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
"We no longer parade suspects because the law presumes them innocent until a competent court says otherwise," he stated.
The police Commissioner, however, declared a more open and collaborative relationship between the State Police Command and practicing journalists in the State, describing the media as a vital bridge between the police and the public.
Ojo appealed to journalists to continue to support the Police in delivering on their constitutional duties, noting that public awareness of the command's efforts largely depends on accurate media coverage, even as he emphasised that the Police under his leadership would foster seamless communication and create a conducive atmosphere for information sharing.
"We are ready to work closely with the media because you are our link to the people. Without you, the public won't know what we are doing," he said.
