The Gateway Games 2024, currently underway in Abeokuta, have seen standout performances from Team Kwara, Team Ogun, and other competing teams across multiple disciplines.
In volleyball, Team Kwara dominated with a 3-0 victory over Team Katsina (25-10, 25-19, 25-18), showcasing fluid teamwork and tactical precision. Their strong showing positions them as early title contenders.
In the men's stroke play golf event, Team Ogun and Bayelsa both recorded gross scores of 72. Ogun secured first place after a tense sudden-death playoff to settle the tie.
Team Niger secured 3rd place with a gross score of 76, as anticipation builds for Day Two of the stroke play competition.
In female handball, the host state, Ogun, asserted its dominance, defeating Plateau State 35-25 in a fast-paced and physical encounter.
In the basketball event, Team Rivers showcased superior skills and coordination to overpower Team Bauchi 68-56 in full time. Rivers' solid defense and sharp shooting proved decisive.
More exciting action is expected in athletics, swimming, boxing, and other events as the National Sports Festival continues in Abeokuta.
