Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti Clinches NIPOGA 2024 Title with Record 29 Gold Medals
The Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, has been crowned champions of the 2024 Nigerian Polytechnics Games (NIPOGA) after dominating the medals table with 29 gold, 15 silver, and nine bronze medals.
The tournament, tagged 'Ijakadi 2024', was hosted by the Federal Polytechnic, Offa, in Kwara State. Dr. (Mrs) Oluwakemi Ogungbamigbe, Chair of the NIPOGA Media Sub-Committee, confirmed in a statement that Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, secured second place with 15 gold, nine silver, and 20 bronze medals. The host institution, Federal Polytechnic, Offa, claimed third with 13 gold, 15 silver, and 26 bronze.
Completing the top five were The Polytechnic, Ibadan, in fourth (11 gold, 11 silver, 15 bronze), and Gateway Polytechnic, Saapade, in fifth (eight gold, three silver, four bronze).
She said that the 'week-long sports fiesta ended remarkably with astonishing final matches in the football events' between the Federal Polytechnic Offa and Federal Polytechnic Nekede for the male category and Federal Polytechnic Offa tackling against Yaba College of Technology in the female Category.
"The keenly contested matches favoured the Federal Polytechnic Offa with 1-0 straight winning against Federal Polytechnic Nekede to emerged winner of NIPOGA for the first time in history while the Federal Polytechnic Offa female team lost to Yabatech in penalty shootout.
"Auchi Polytechnic won the third place at the expense of Federal Polytechnic Bauchi in the male category while Sapade Polytechnic bagged third position in female football."
