First Lady Tinubu Inaugurates Ultramodern ICU and VIP Ward in Ilorin
Nigeria's First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Tuesday inaugurated an ultramodern Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and the Dr. Amuda Aluko VIP Ward at the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital in Ilorin, the state capital.
The event was attended by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, his wife Olufolake, members of the State Executive Council, and other dignitaries from across the country.
Speaking at the ceremony, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina El-Imam, emphasised the facility's inclusivity and affordability, noting that it is designed to cater to all categories of patients without imposing financial burdens.
“The facility will serve both men and women, young and old alike. The furniture is brand new, and everything is designed to ensure comfort, reduce hospital-acquired infections, and accelerate patients' recovery,” she said.
“The Amuda Aluko VIP ward comprises 19 rooms, including spacious single rooms and double rooms designed to meet various patient needs.
“The double rooms resemble a room and parlour, ensuring comfort for both patients and healthcare workers”, El-Imam added.
On affordability, she noted, “It is not free, but you can be rest assured that it is affordable, as the government of Kwara State always considers the least privileged while providing healthcare services. The facility offers advanced care beyond what is obtainable in primary or secondary health centres, helping to reduce medical tourism.”
Addressing maintenance concerns, the commissioner expressed confidence in the hospital staff, saying, “No one would have such a facility and decide to ruin it. I trust the dedication of the team at KWASUTH to maintain this facility.”
After the inauguration, the First Lady proceeded to the palace of the Emir of Ilorin for a courtesy visit.
