164 Arrested as Kwara Cracks Down on Environmental Sanitation Offenders
The Kwara State Commissioner for Environment, Nafisat Buge, has issued a stern warning to residents against violating the state's environmental laws, stressing that offenders will face the full force of the law.
The warning came after the arrest of at least 164 individuals during the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in Ilorin, the state capital.
Among the offenders was one individual who allegedly assaulted a sanitation official. The suspect has been handed over to the police for prosecution.
The commissioner, in a statement by the ministry's press secretary, Shakirat Muritala stated, “About 164 violators were apprehended and will be arraigned before the court. Also, one of the violators apprehended attacked the officer on duty. The said offender has been handed over to the police and will be charged to court accordingly.”
She commended the compliance of Ilorin residents during the exercise.
She also noted the state's commitment to eradicating indiscriminate dumping of refuse which according to her has earned Kwara recognition among its peers.
“Kwara State has been rated high among its peers for its untiring efforts at eradicating indiscriminate dumping of refuse and sustaining a conducive atmosphere, free of diseases for residents of the State,” she said.
Buge reiterated the government's resolve to enforce the law, urging residents to adhere to environmental regulations to avoid legal consequences.
