Date: 2025-01-23

Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has charged newly graduated recruits in Kwara State to uphold the highest standards of discipline, integrity, and professionalism in discharging their duties.

Speaking through the state Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, at the graduation ceremony of 587 recruits of the batch of 2022, held at the police training school in Ilorin on Thursday, the IGP reminded them that their conduct, both on and off duty, will define how the public perceives the police force.

He sounded a note of caution that the cornerstone of a successful policing career is discipline, adding, ”your journey from here will depend on your character, commitment and adherence to the ethical standards of the Nigeria police force.”

Egbetokun, further warned that there will be no tolerance for indiscipline, corruption or any form of misconduct and urged the new recruits to remain steadfast, uphold the rule of law and commit to the values of courage, fairness and professionalism.”

“Today's event marks the culmination of rigorous, physical, intellectual and emotional preparation aimed at transforming these young Nigerians from civilians into professional police officers equipped to handle the demands of modern policing.

“This ceremony is yet another milestone in the ongoing commitment of the Federal Government to strengthen the Nigeria Police Force.

“The recruitment and training of 10,000 police recruits reflect our collective resolve to prioritize the security of lives and as you graduate today, you are joining a reformed police force that is undergoing a transformation driven by professionalism, ethics, and technological advancement.

“Under my leadership, the Nigeria police force is focused on adopting innovative strategies to combat crime, ensure the safety of citizens, and strengthen public trust.

“Let me emphasize that the uniform you wear is not merely a symbol of authority; it is a representation of service, sacrifice, and responsibility,” the IGP added.

He highlighted the unwavering Federal government's commitment to improving the welfare and operational capabilities of the force.

“Through the Ministry of Police Affairs, the Police Trust Fund, and other strategic partnerships, resources are being provided to enhance operational efficiency and personnel welfare.

“This is a testament to the belief that a well-motivated and well-equipped police force is essential for national security,” he further stated.

The IGP called for collective efforts towards creating a safer, more secure Nigeria for all.
