Man Allegedly Commits Suicide in Ilorin, Shocking Community
A 45-year-old man, identified as Bitrus Yila from Gombe State, has allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree in a bush around the NASFAT area of Airport Road in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
The weekend incident shocked residents of the community who found his dead body dangling from the tree. Local authorities have been notified, and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death is underway.
When our reporter visited the area, some policemen were seen patrolling the community and the scene of the incident.
According to a resident, the deceased left behind a written note containing the contact information of his family members.
“It's a tragic incident, and we can only speculate about what might have led him to take such a drastic step. Maybe it was financial pressure or family issues, but we can't say,” the source, who preferred not to be named, added.
When contacted, the spokesman of the state police command, SP Toun-Ejire Adeyemi, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on Sunday over the phone.
“The body has been deposited in the mortuary, and we are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“His name is Mr. Bitrus Yila from Gombe State. He left a note behind containing the phone number of his wife.
“We have also contacted the wife and she will be coming down to Ilorin to claim the corpse,” she stated.
