Kwara Govt To Pay New Minimum Wage - HOS

ILORIN - The Kwara Government has Ilorin reiterated its commitment to paying the N18,000 minimum wage to its workers.

Alhaji Muhammed Dabarako, the state’s Head of Service, newsmen that the committee set up to work out the modalities for payment of the wage was working out the strategy to be adopted.

He urged workers to shun rumour mongering, saying the state government would adhere to the new wage regime.

Dabarako, who is also the chairman of the committee constituted on the new wage by the former administration, affirmed that government would sustain the new wage regime.

He stated that another sub-committee to come out with the realistic cost of the new wage bill had been constituted.

Dabarako explained that members of the committee had been touring ministries, parastatal agencies and local government areas in the state.

The tour, he said, was necessary to enable the committee evolve a realistic modality for the payment.
We want the committee to recommend a feasible, practicable and achievable type of wage bill.

“The sub-committee has to visit various places to find out what is really happening so that we will be able to sustain the payment when we start,” he said.

Dabarako gave an assurance that the committee would ensure that the N18,000 minimum wage regime was implemented.

He urged governors to appeal to the federal government to increase the monthly allocations to states and councils, saying the increase would sustain the new wage regime and cushion the effect of the payment on state governments.
