Kwara NSCDC Nabs Motorcycle Thieves

Date: 2013-01-23

Kwara state command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) yesterday paraded three suspected robbers of motorcycles, popularly known as okada, in Ilorin, the state capital.

The three suspects paraded included Seyi Adebayo, the main suspect; Taofeeq Azeez and Saka Wasiu, the suspected buyer of stolen motorcycles.

The command's Public Relations Officer (PRO), Abdulkadir Olanrewaju, said the main suspect, Adebayo, was arrested in Ilorin trying to steal a motorcycle.

He said the command officers acted on a tip off from some members of the public which led to the arrest of the suspect.

He said, upon investigation, it was discovered that Adebayo had been stealing people's motorcycles and selling them to Azeez and Wasiu in the neighbouring Oyo state.

The command's spokesman said the suspect confessed to have "stolen and disposed off two motorcycles before the long arm of the law caught up with him, when he attempted to steal another bike".

Olanrewaju said the three arrested suspects would be charged to court after the completion of their investigation.

The suspected thief, an indigene of Ekiti state, said he was lured into the business of stealing motorcycles by a friend.

He said a brand new stolen bike was sold for N30, 000, while fairly-used types were sold for N15, 000 and N20, 000.
