Kwara State Begins Rehabilitation of Sobi, Lafiagi, and Zambufu Waterworks

Date: 2024-08-30

As reported by Royal News, the Kwara State Government has commenced the rehabilitation of three major waterworks, Sobi, Lafiagi, and Zambufu.".

The project has officially handed to two contractors, Hydrogold Ltd. and Shegs Contracts Ltd., for immediate rehabilitation to restore the facilities to functional use.

The State Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Usman Yunusa Lade, announced this positive development while handing over the Sobi Waterworks in Ilorin to the contractor for rehabilitation. The Commissioner urged the contractor to ensure a high-quality job and to complete the project in accordance with the contract agreement.

“I want to believe that we were here sometime ago to assess the level of damage caused by flood. You should be able to do a thorough and quality job for us”, he said.

Responding, the representative of the Contractor, Hydrogold Ltd., Engr. Gbenga Durojaye promised that the company would deliver the project as specified in the contractual agreement.

Engr. Durojaye stressed that some preliminary works would start in earnest in order to meet up with the terms of the contract.

He thanked the state government for the confidence reposed in them, adding that they would not renege in their promises.

In a related development, the Commissioner, while handing over the Lafiagi and Zambufu Waterworks to Shegs Contracts Ltd., appealed to the contractor for a total rehabilitation of the facility.

He enjoined the contractor to do a diligent and quality work for the state, warning that the state government would not accept any sub-standard job from any contractor.

At the Palace of the Emir of Lafiagi, Hon. Lade briefed the Monarch, Alh. Mohammed Kudu Kawu that the scope of the project had been increased to include drilling of additional borehole, extension, and reticulation of more fetching points.

He explained further that the state government resolved to overhaul the Waterworks to make them function efficiently, advising the affected communities to provide security to protect the facilities in order to avoid vandalisation by hoodlums as witnessed before.

The Commissioner also used the opportunity to congratulate the Emir for the appointment of their son, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed, as Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In his welcome address, the Emir of Lafiagi, Alh. Mohammed Kudu Kawu assured that the community would double its efforts to ensure the security of the facilities.

He thanked the state government for always coming to their aid each time they approach the government with the challenges of provision of social amenities in their communities across the Emirate.

Responding on behalf of the contractor, Shegs Contracts Ltd, the Managing Director of the company, Alh. Muritala Abdulsalam assured the Commissioner that the company would deliver a quality job.

Alh. Abdulsalam thanked the state government for the opportunity given his company to fix the Waterworks, stressing that they will not disappoint in the execution of the project.

It would be recalled that last year, there was a heavy downpour, which caused flood to damage the Sobi Waterworks facility and rendered it non functional.
