Ministry of Environment Clears Illegal Dumpsite to Combat Cholera Threat
According to a news report from Daily Trust, the Kwara State Ministry of Environment has evacuated the illegal dumpsite along Akerebiata-Abattoir Bridge in Ilorin East LGA.
During the exercise, the Commissioner for Environment, Hajiya Nafisat Buge, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr Abubakar Ayinla, stated that the effort was aimed at ensuring a clean and healthy environment for all residents of the state.
The commissioner reminded community members that the ongoing outbreak of cholera in some parts of the country called for concerted efforts. She assured that the government would not rest on its laurels in ensuring that the state remained free from cholera outbreaks.
She said, “The government is committed to maintaining a clean, safe and healthy environment.
“This is why various measures have been put in place to forestall outbreak of diseases, especially the ongoing cholera, which is already ravaging some states in the country.
“While we mark the exercise, we also need to be wary and proactive in keeping cholera and other diseases at bay.''
She, therefore, enjoined residents to join hands with the state government in ensuring a clean environment and desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse, especially on river banks and road medians.
