Kwara LG Polls: We’ll Ensure Transparency, Says KWSIEC Chair

Date: 2024-06-26

According to a news report from Vanguard, the Chairman of the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission, Alhaji Mohammadu Baba Okanla, has assured the seventeen political parties participating in the forthcoming local government elections of transparency and a level playing field.

Baba Okanla made this statement during an interview with journalists in Ilorin on Tuesday.

He confirmed that all arrangements have been finalised to conduct the council polls in the state on September 21, 2024.

He also urged the political party leaders to ensure their members adhere to the rules and avoid causing any disturbances before, during, and after the elections.

“As of today, we have 17 political parties that participated with us in the interface and we have given them the date, conditions and timetable,” he said.

He also said that programmes have been lined up for the stakeholders in the election to educate and sensitise them on the need to have successful elections.

He said,”There is going to be a seminar for all the political parties where we are going to tell them what is expected from them.

” The key point of the programme is that on election day, they should tell their followers to conduct themselves peacefully and come out en masse and vote for the candidate of their choice.

” To a greater extent, we have given level free ground for all of them showing how transparent we are,”he said
