Veteran Journalists Call for Amicable Resolution of Minimum Wage Crisis
According to a news report from Royal News, the National League of Veteran Journalists (NALVEJ) in Kwara State has called for an amicable resolution to the ongoing crisis surrounding the implementation of the new minimum wage for workers in Nigeria. The appeal was made during the league's monthly meeting, held in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Wednesday.
The league urged the federal government to expedite the implementation of a fair minimum wage for workers. Additionally, it called on the leaders of organised labour to be reasonable in their demands for the new wage template.
In a statement signed by its chairman, Alhaji Tunde Akanbi, and publicity secretary, Alhaji Abdullahi Olesin, NALVEJ also urged the federal government to intensify efforts to secure lives and property across the country. The league expressed concern over the alarming rate of kidnappings and the subsequent payment of ransoms by victims' families to the abductors.
On palliatives to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal, the league opined that selling of foodstuff at dubsidized rates to Nigerians will be a better option.
It urged journalists to be fair in their reportage of political events in the country so as not to overheat the polity.
During the meeting, the league played host to a former spokesman of Kwara State Police Command, Alh Salihu Mohammed Woru.
In a brief remarks, Woru who is also the Magaji Nda of Ilorin, urged the veterans and Nigerians generally to be security conscious at all time.
