Ahmed Promises Infrastructure in Schools

Date: 2013-01-12

The Kwara State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to providing adequate infrastructure in educational institutions in the state to create the necessary conducive atmosphere for learning.

The State Governor, Dr Abdulfatah Ahmed, stated this on Tuesday when he paid an unscheduled visit to Government Secondary School, Ilorin to assess its infrastructural needs and the general state of the school.

Interacting with the principal and other staff of the school, Governor Ahmed stated that government will no longer accept a situation where students resume to school after holidays at will, pointing out that the school authorities must evolve a system to check students excesses.

"We can't continue like this. The students must be disciplined. We must bequeath a working system to the coming generation. The existing infrastructure must be maintained. Things were working and this was what resulted into the quality students that we had", the governor lamented.

The governor said a lot more is required to be done to move the school to the standard that would support real human capital development, one of the cardinal objectives of the administration.

He said such unscheduled visits will continue to be paid to institutions, agencies and parastatals in the state to ascertain their levels of performance in line with government policy of a strong emphasis on performance management, monitoring and reward through performance contracts.
