Kwara Must Change said that, the late Olukoro has taught us that we must resist kidnappers with everything we have and not surrender or negotiate with them, because we cannot pay our way out of the kidnapping crisis.
Late Oba Aremu-Cole was shot dead at his palace last Thursday night by suspected kidnappers after he resisted to be abducted.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Convener of Kwara Must Change, Comrade Abdulrazaq Hamzat, the group said that, “Kwara State government must immortalize the late monarch and make him the symbol of resistance in the struggle against banditry”.
According to him, information gathered indicates that the late Olukoro refused to be kidnapped, saying nobody could command him.
“He(Late Oba Aremu-Cole) refused to take orders from unknown gunmen and even when they shot in the air to scare him, he refused to surrender, nor get scared and in the struggle, they eventually shot him dead”.
Hamzat explained that, the entire people of Kwara must be ready to fight, not pay or surrender to kidnappers, because until kidnappers knows that they won't get paid, they will never desist from the act.
The group also maintained that the sacrifice of the late Olukoro must not be in vain, adding that, security agencies should take inspiration from the late monarch who continue to fight until the very end.
The group therefore said, “Security agencies must do everything possible to rescue those in kidnappers den and bring the kidnappers to justice”.
