Kwara Govt. Spends N2.7 Billion on Rural Roads - Ahmed
Kwara Government on Thursday said it spent N2.7 billion to rehabilitate rural roads across the 16 local government areas of the state.
Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed, who disclosed this at a monthly forum in Ilorin, said the roads cut across the three senatorial districts of the state.
He said work would soon begin on Ajase-Offa-Erinle road to Osun boundary, because the state government had decided to rehabilitate it since the Federal Government was not forthcoming. According to him, the state government has made several contacts with the Federal Government on all the federal roads that are in bad shape.
Ahmed said the Federal Government was, however, not categorical on how to refund the money for the rehabilitation of the road. He said the Kayamo-Kishi road would cost N8 billion, Offa-Omu-Aran-Kabba road, N6 billion while Eyenkorin-Jebba would gulp N5 billion.
Ahmed said government renovated 25 water works in the state, constructed 20 boreholes while 199 communities benefitted from electrification projects.
The governor said his administration had decided to complete all ongoing projects in Ilorin. He said additional 15 aircraft would be delivered to the state-owned International Aviation College Ilorin, before the end of March, as part of efforts to increase its revenue base.
The governor said students of the college were already flying aircraft and expressed the hope that the institution would continue to generate more internal revenues for the state. On water shortage in Ilorin metropolitan, Ahmed said it would enjoy uninterrupted supply before the end of the year. (NAN)
