Kwara DPR Worried over Petrol Diversion

Date: 2012-12-27

The Department of Petroleum Resources, llorin, Kwara State has said that it is worried over the alleged diversion of petrol meant for Kwara State.

It added that it had queried 25 marketers suspected to have diverted the petrol meant for Kwara State in October to unknown destinations.

According to the Kwara State Operations Controller, DPR, Mr. Amos Jokodola, the agency's records showed that 33,000 litres of PMS per truck lifted at NIPCO depot in Lagos by some companies were not delivered and accounted for in llorin as stipulated by law.

He stated that the marketers suspected to be culprits had been queried and were given two weeks to respond to DPR's investigation report or account for the products.

He added that if the companies defaulted or failed to give acceptable reasons for their alleged offences, they would be sanctioned in accordance with DPR's approved penalties for retail outlet offences.

"Diversion of products is unlawful and it is responsible for scarcity of petroleum products in the state. The Department shall not allow unscrupulous marketers to cause pains to the masses. DPR would apply the penalty for diversion for marketers who could not satisfactorily account for products lifted for Kwara motorists," Jokodola said.
