Kwara Assembly Lauds Ties with Other Arms, Passes 71 Resolutions
In consonance with its duties, the Kwara State House of Assembly has passed 71 resolutions, moved 23 substantive motions and passed 14 bills in the year 2012.
According to the Speaker of the House Abdulrasak Atunwa at the weekend in Ilorin, following the feat, the House remained one of the best three in the country, noting that the existing cordial relationship among the three arms of government could not be divorced from the success.
Atunwa said petitions before the House formed the largest among the resolutions, just as he praised the people of the state for opting for peaceful resolutions of their grievances rather than resorting to jungle justice "which could have eroded the peace of our state."
He thanked the State's immediate past Governor Bukola Saraki for providing effective leadership structure for members of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), "that on its own makes us to see one another as members of the same political family.
Atunwa, while lamenting the absence of the dividends of democracy at the grassroots, urged the leadership at the councils to live up to expectation, as the state government alone could not provide all the needs of the people.
Speaking on the Freedom of Information Bill, (FOI), the Speaker believed that the bill would not only benefit journalists but assist in curbing corruption in the country.
