Kwara govt urges support of heads of tertiary institutions on education policies
•Inaugurates Provost of College of Nursing Oke-ode
The Kwara State Government has enjoined the heads of tertiary institutions in the State particularly the ones owned by the government to continue to support its educational policies and programmes to achieve proficiency among other targets in that sector.
State Commissioner for Tertiary Education Dr Alabi Afees Abolorega gave the charge on Thursday at the inauguration ceremony of the newly appointed Provost of the College of Nursing Oke-Ode (Ifelodun LGA), Alhaji Quadri Olarewaju.
He encouraged the Provost to lead by example and strive to maintain peace and ensure a stable and uninterrupted school calendar.
He reaffirmed the government's commitment to continue to transform the State owned institutions and provide necessary support that will enable them run efficiently.
The Chairperson of the Governing Council of the College Hajia Mariam Ibrahim, in her submissions, said the new appointment was based on merit given the credentials and character of the appointee, and commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for putting a right peg in a right hole.
She expressed confidence that the new Provost will put his wealth of experience as a nurse to bear and for speedy growth and development of the College.
Hajia Ibrahim said that the Council will also continue to offer their best and give the needed support for the Provost in piloting the institutions to an enviable height, acknowledging that the Ministry has also been supportive in many ways.
The Council head thanked the Governor for giving the College a priority attention to fulfill its obligations to the staff and students on the campus.
She highlighted the government's release of funds for the completion of the female hostel; approval for the takeoff of the degree programme in Nursing Science; and the approval of accreditation and provision for conducive working atmosphere as some of the remarkable efforts Governor AbdulRazaq has made to reposition the institution.
Provost of the College, Alhaji Quadri Olarewaju, appreciated the Governor for finding him worthy for the job, and pledged to justify his appointment with an excellent performance, which according to him will complement the administration's efforts to heighten the glory in that sub-sector.
He also promised to work in synergy with the Governing Council and other management staff to ensure that the citadel of learning remains one of the best in the State and the Country at large.
