Man Kills Girl In Kwara Over Witchcraft Allegation
A man, Umoru Jidah, has been arraigned for killing a girl, Khadijat Issa, over suspicion of her possessing witchcraft at Gwanara area of Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Jidah was dragged to court on a single-count charge of culpable homicide which contravenes Section 221 of the Penal Code.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the matter was earlier reported by an elder brother of the victim, Mohammed Aliyu, to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) at Gwanara that his sister was missing.
The police told the court that during the investigation Jidah confessed that he ambushed Khadijat along a bush path and hit her with a stick on her head before leaving her for dead.
The prosecutor, ASP Moshood Adebayo, further told the court, “He confessed that he attacked her because she was a witch and used her witchcraft to kill his sister-in-law by the name Hassana.
“After killing her, Jidah ran to Yashikira, a nearby community, before he was arrested by the police.”
Upon the request of the prosecutor, the Magistrate, Mohammed, ruled that the suspect be remanded in a correctional facility and adjourned the case to May 31.
