Top lecturers and practitioners from and academics and media industry weekend converged on Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, to launch 'Omoluabi Volunteers', a platform to actualise the senatorial ambition of former Minister of Sports, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi.

Also included in the group are undergraduates, artisans and the former minister's mentees among others who have benefitted from his interventions in and outside government.

Abdullahi, a gubernatorial aspirant in the 2015 elections, is gunning for the Kwara Central senatorial ticket on the platform of the PDP.

Speaking during the event, a senior lecturer in the University of Ilorin and immediate past HOD of its Mass Communication Department, Dr Mustapha Lambe, described Abdullahi as an accidental politician, but a technocrat who has made a huge impact in the educational and youth sectors in the country.

For his part, the General Manager of the University of Ilorin FM, Alhaji Idris Aloma, said Abdullahi has not been found wanting in his previous positions of service, adding that his senatorial quest will be a watershed in the country.

The Team lead of the campaign group, Comrade Ibrahim Esinrogunjo, who is the younger brother to the Special Adviser on Rural Mobilisation to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, said the former minister's candidature stands tall among the others going by his antecedents.

He said the group will not only mobilise but gather resources across the 52 wards of the 4 local governments in the senatorial district to support and actualize the project.

Some beneficiaries and mentees of the opportunities created by Bolaji Abdullahi at event declared support and donated fund for his aspiration.
