Court remands student over assault on UNILORIN lecturer

A Magistrate's Court sitting in Ilorin, Kwara State on Thursday ordered that Salaudeen Waliu, a 400-level Microbiology student of the University of Ilorin who allegedly assaulted a lecturer be remanded in the Federal Correctional Centre, Ilorin.

Waliu was taken to the court for allegedly beating up a female lecturer, Rahmat Zakariya of the Department of Microbiology, University of Ilorin, on Thursday, November 11, 2021.

Police First Information Report noted that the suspect, (Waliu) had consumed some hard drugs before going to the lecturer's office, who happens to be his Industrial Training coordinator.

He reportedly banged her table, shouting that the lecturer should give him mark for the Industrial Programme he did not participate in.

The report said that Waliu punched the lecturer when she rejected his demand and beat her.

Police report added that the lecturer screaming for help attracted the attention of the security operatives who thronged to the scene and rescued her from Waliu's net.

The Magistrate, Muhammed Ibrahim, who presided over the matter, ordered Waliu's remand while the matter was adjourned to 26th of November for mention.
