Terminate Ilorin-Kabba road contract, award to Dangote - Ex-Rep

Date: 2021-11-17

A former member of the House of Representatives, Sunday Karimi, has urged the Federal Government to reach an agreement with Dangote Cement to fix the Kabba-Ilorin road while granting the company a tax waiver.

Karimi, who represented Yagba Federal Constituency in Kogi State at the House between 2011 and 2019, noted that although the contract for the phases 1 and 2 of the road had earlier been awarded to CGC in 2014 and 2016, respectively, the construction had been frustrated by lack of adequate funding through the annual budgeting process.

In a statement issued on Tuesday and titled, 'Former Federal Lawmaker, Rep Karimi Sunday Wants Kabba-Ilorin Road Concessioned to Dangote on Tax Waiver,' the ex-House member called for termination of the contract through a mutual agreement.

He said this would enable the government to enter into a new agreement with Dangote Cement for the reconstruction of theroad, using the same method as was done to the Obajana-kabba road in Kogi State.

Karimi decried the untold hardships faced by motorists on the road, which he described unbearable.
