FIBAN BEGS KWARA LABOUR TO SHELVE PLANNED STRIKE, RETURN TO NEGOTIATION

Date: 2020-10-13

The Freelance and Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria (FIBAN), Kwara state chapter, on Sunday, appealed to the leadership of the Joint Kwara Labour Congress which comprises Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) against their proposed industrial action slated for Tuesday, 13th October, 2020, over the failure of state government in the implementation of the new minimum wage.

The association made this appeal in a statement released and made available to journalists in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.

The statement was issued by the Publicity Secretary of the association, Olayinka Osayomi on behalf of the state chairman, Abimbola Oluwaseun Adesemowo.

FIBAN appealed to the leadership of the organized labour in the state to consider the negative impact of the proposed strike action on the economy of the state. It said such action would worsen the already deteriorating economic situation of the workers and that of the people of the state.

"The association hereby call for further understanding between the labour leaders and the state government by allowing negotiation to continue," the statement added.

It further said that the present administration in the state under leadership of Mallam Abdulrahaman AbdulRazaq was trying its best to improve the living standard of the people of the state in spite of the challenges and paucity of funds.
