Violence'll Hinder Vision 2020 - Dons
A lecturer at the Imam Malik College, Ibadan, Isma'eel Busayri and his counterpart at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomosho, Dr. Miftaudeen Abdulr-Rauf, have said violence is inimical to national development. They, therefore called for peaceful co-existence among Nigerians.
Delivering a paper on 'Peaceful Co-existence: The Islamic Perspective,' in Ilorin on Monday, Busayri said Nigeria's quest to be among the top 20 economies of the world by 2020 might be a mirage if the current insecurity was not addressed.
He called on muslims and Christians in Nigeria to understand their differences and build a united and virile nation.
Speaking during the lecture which was organised by The Muslim Congress, Busayri urged people in leadership positions to desist from making utterances that could inflame religious passions and create tension in the country.
Abdulr-Rauf, in his paper titled, 'Corruption and the way forward,' said high corruption in the country was as a result of leadership failure.
He urged Nigerians and their leaders to refrain from "acquisitive tendencies", greed and unbridled crave for wealth and materialism at the expense of others.
Earlier, the Waali of the TMC, Abdulhakeem Peleowo, urged Nigerians to remain committed to good lifestyle and avoid corruption.
