Kwara to Convert Old Unilorin Teaching Hospital to General Hospital
The Kwara State government has announced its resolve to convert the old site of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital to a general hospital.
Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, who announced this yesterday in Ilorin, the state capital, at the opening ceremony of the 46th annual national conference of Ilorin Emirate Descendant Progressive Union (IEDPU), said N600 million had been earmarked to equip the hospital complex.
The governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Isiaka Gold, said the upgrading of the hospital would be done between January and September 2012.
Speaking further, the governor said as part of measures to make potable water available to the people of the Emirate, his administration had also approved the construction of six boreholes in each of the five local government areas that made up Ilorin Emirate.
He thanked the people of the emirate for their support during the last general elections,promising not to betray the confidence reposed in him.
In his address, the national president of IEDPU, Justice Saka Yusuf called on the Federal Government to mandate all its agencies located in Kwara State to adhere to the policy of federal character in their recruitment exercise.
He also called on the Minister of Youth Development, Mr Bolaji Abdullahi, to fulfil his promise on youth empowerment with concerted and practical actions, especially in the state.
Yusuf also appealed to the state government to install necessary equipment that would facilitate the effectiveness of the newly established PHCN sub-station in Ilorin metropolis to ensure constant and stable electricity supply in the state capital.
