NIPOGA: Kwara Poly Rector promises hitch free event

Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, is set for the successful hosting of the 20th edition of the Nigeria Polytechnic Games (NIPOGA).

This would be the second time Kwara Polytechnic would be hosting the national event, having held it before in 1981 where the institution bagged six gold and six bronze medals.

Kwara Polytechnic Rector, Engr. Abdul Jimoh Muhammed, while briefing journalists in Ilorin on the preparedness of the institution for the epoch making event, said 51 polytechnics across Nigeria are being expected to feature in the 11-day event, adding that the various polytechnics would be competing in 12 games, which include football, volleyball, table tennis, basketball and athletics.

The sporting event, the Rector said, would commence on February 5 and end on the 16th, saying everything has been done and put in place to make the event memorable and hitch free.

According to the Rector, 3,000 contingents would feature and compete in the 12 games, while 1,000 officials are expected to officiate, adding that the Minister of Sports, Kwara State Governor AbdilRahman AbdulRazaq and polytechnic rectors across the country, among other dignitaries, are expected to grace the opening ceremony.

Commending Governor AbdulRazaq for making the host in realisable, Dr. Muhammed said: "It got to a point when we lost hope of hosting the game, but with God on our side through the state government here we are today elated that the day has come and we are fully ready and prepared."
