Kwara committed to education reforms - Commissioner

The Kwara Government on Tuesday assured residents of the state of its commitment to ensuring reforms in the education sector that would continue to yield positive results.

The State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Mrs Fatimoh Ahmed, gave the assurance while inspecting ongoing work at the proposed Police Secondary School Ballah and the newly constructed Government Day Secondary School, Ballah.

Ahmed said due to the fact that infrastructure was key to the development of any society, Gov. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq had approved the comprehensive renovation of eight secondary schools and partial renovation of another 23 schools across the three senatorial districts of the State.

According to her, the present administration has also approved the construction of the Police Secondary school which is expected to take off by January 2020 and Government Day Secondary School in Ballah, all in Asa Local Government Area.

Ahmed added that the reforms were aimed at changing the education sector for the better and also regaining the lost glory of the state.

She enjoined the contractors handling both projects to deliver based on the agreements reached because government would not entertain any excuse that would disrupt the resumption of students.

In his remarks, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr Adisa Logun, expressed satisfaction on the quality of job done by the contractors and urged them to continue to work according to specifications.

The Chief Executive Officer of Ball Engineering Limited, Mr Bashir Lawal, who spoke on behalf of the contractors, commended the state government for making the education sector a priority.

He also expressed appreciation to the governor for patronising indigenous contractors.

According to him, the gesture will enhance the economic development of the state.
