Kwara Weightlifting Association restrategises to rekindle interest in sport

Date: 2019-05-18

The Kwara Weightlifting Association is to restrategise in order to rekindle interest in the sport.

A communique issued at the end of the association's meeting in Ilorin on Thursday restated its resolve to rekindle interest in weightlifting, particularly at the grassroots.

The communique signed by the association's chairman, Dr Steve Larinoye, said the body would collaborate with individuals and corporate bodies to boost weight lifting in the state.

The body stated that the association would visit schools to identify talents and nurture them for national and international competitions.

It praised the Weightlifting Federation of Nigeria for donating equipment to the association explaining that this would spur the body to attain greater heights.

The association called on the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) not to relent in promoting its activities and programmes.

It also commended the State Sports Council for its support and encouragement.

Addressing the members earlier, the State Director of Sports, Mallam Tunde Kazeem commended the efforts of the association for winning laurels for the state and the nation in the past.

He said Kwara was the only one in the country that had won an Olympics silver medal through Ruth Balofin.

Kazeem called on the association to strive to improve on the record.

He also urged the association to source for funds from individuals and corporate organisations.
