Kwara United's Abubakar Bala explains reasons massive overhaul

Date: 2018-11-08

Kwara United head coach, Abubakar Bala has affirmed that he kept faith with only 13 players out of those used to prosecute the Harmony Boys activities last season because he does not want the club to struggle.

The Harmony Boys were in the relegation zone most part of the first round last league season before Bala replaced John Obuh and he was able to steady the team to top-flight safety.

Bala will take full charge of the team next term and he noted that he parted company with most of the players he worked with last season because they could not measure up to standards and the fact that he does not want to oversee just an average team.

"It is as if we are starting on a clean slate because I have opted for players that can help me achieve my objective at Kwara United unlike last season when I made use players that were not up to my standard," Bala told Goal.

"I joined the club at a time when it was difficult to bring in new players but I had to manage what I got and we were able to escape to relegation. We have the whole preseason to ourselves and we have the type of players that we require to get the job done.

"I will only make use of 25 players because we are not going to play up to 38 matches like previous seasons. We will only pick the best in each position to ensure that we are well placed at the end of the season."
