Kwara APC Crisis: Court adjourns suit for hearing

Date: 2018-10-15

There seemed to be no end in sight to the leadership crisis rocking the Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the High Court sitting in Ilorin last Friday adjourned the suit between Bashiru Bolarinwa and Balogun-Fulani-led factions to Wednesday for hearing.

Recall that the two factions had been at loggerheads over the leadership of the APC in the state, following the gale of defections that blew on the political landscape across the country.

The Bolarinwa-led faction of the party with the backing of the national leadership had dragged Balogun-Fulani-led executives to court claiming that they are the authentic APC in Kwara State.

During proceedings, the claimants' counsels led by Barr. Kehinde Kolawole Eleja SAN, filed a motion for the amendment of the originating summons and the trial judge, Justice S.T Umar adjourned the matter.

The claimant filed further affidavit in respect of the amendment of the originating summon which the 6th defendant, Barr. Abdulganiyu Salaudeen insisted that he needed time to react to what the claimants filed.

Following this development, the court ruled that Salaudeeen have the right within the ambit of the law to react to the affidavit.

Barr. Salman Jawondo, the counsel representing the 1st to 4th; National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole, party Secretary, APC and the National Working Committee (NWC) made an application to file a counter affidavit against the motion of the claimant which was granted by the court.

For filing the application late, Eleja SAN however demanded for a cost of N100,000 which was awarded in court against Jawondo.

The court however adjourned the suit till Wednesday, 17th October, 2018 for motion while the preliminary objection and the substantive suit will be heard later.
