KWASU centre partners POWA on entrepreneurship, others

Date: 2018-09-03

In fulfilment of its resolve to work with the Kwara State Police Command in different areas of development, the Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, through its Centre for Community Development (CCD), is currently partnering with the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA), on entrepreneurship, vocational skills acquisition, youth capacity building, and community health. This followed a Needs Assessment meeting held with POWA by the KWASU team led by the Assistant Director, CCD, Mr. LawalOlohungbebe, at the Police Officers Mess, GRA, Ilorin.

Shortly after the meeting, the CCD Assistant Director and others paid a visit to the state Commissioner of Police, Aminu Saleh, to brief him on the outcome.

He said the Centre is to consider the identified needs and involve other related units and departments at KWASU, so as to come up with different interventions, in collaboration with POWA. The community development expert commended the CP for his commitment to and understanding of community development, and his belief in KWASU and its leadership.

He also remarked that KWASU is a universal city where all expertise abounds and there is no challenge out there that can be too much for universities to address. Universities are the think tanks of the society. Therefore, KWASU, under our Vice-Chancellor, is ready to play that role in Africa.

Olohungbebe added that community development has become an enviable tradition among KWASU academic staff and students.

Also, POWA members commended the CP for consolidating on the achievements of his immediate predecessor by embarking on projects within a short time in office.

Responding, the CP highlighted some of the challenges facing the command and the need for collaboration with KWASU and other relevant stakeholders, to address those challenges. He, therefore, commended the University for its Community Development efforts and urged others to emulate the Institution.
