Nigerian Youth Parliament confers Merit Award on Kwara Deputy Speaker

The Nigerian Youth Parliament on Wednesday bestowed merit award of excellence on the Deputy Speaker, Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. (Dr.) Mathew Okedare as the Most Active Deputy Speaker in the North Central Nigeria.

While presenting the award, the parliament Leader, Hon. Umar Etudaye said the lawmaker was chosen for his reputable personality, his ability in the lawmaking business and connection with his Constituents.

Etudaye said further that the parliament is very much aware of Okedare's resilience, charismatic, distinct principle and ideology with the collective efforts of other well-meaning legislatures to achieve the standard as well as quality of modern legislative system in Nigeria.

"The strength of Nigeria democracy and Africa at large depends greatly on her legislators. Hence, the role of legislators in democracy can never be over emphasised"

"The Nigerian Youth Parliament is pleased to name you as a Role Model, this is informed by your uncommon leadership qualities; courageousness, experience, versatility and above all father to all posture which you have maintained", the Leader said.

Reacting, Hon. Okedare who is representing Lanwa/Ejidongari Constituency appreciated the parliament for the honour and particularly for finding him worthy among other deputy speakers in the North Central.

He said, "As a lawmaker, being responsive and productive requires an in-depth research of happenings around you so as to prepare you in making the right laws that would guarantee good governance for your people".

The deputy speaker added that he consider the feat as an acknowledgement of the robust debates at the floor of the House and therefore dedicated the award to the 8th Legislature of the Kwara State House of Assembly.

Okedare further noted that the honour could not have come to fruition without the unalloyed support and cooperation of his colleagues at the House.
