Date: 2018-06-07

The Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ali Ahmad has facilitated World Bank Development Projects worth millions of naira to 11 communities in his Ilorin South Constituency.

Communities which benefitted from the programme's first phase applied and received the grants through Kwara State Community and Social Development Agency (KWCSDA) after being duely considered by the World Bank.

The communities are Omomere-Oja Community in Akanbi Ward I, Okaka Community in Okaka Ward II and Ogidi Community in Akanbi IV while the projects expected to be executed are water projects, construction or rehabilitation of schools, rehabilitation of health centers, construction or rehabilitation of drainages etc.

The Speaker had last year paid about 4million on behalf of 11 communities in 11Wards comprising Ilorin South Local Government with N50, 000 Equity Funds being the 10 per cent required to ascertain their commitment as well as their registration for the programme.

Ahmad who was represented at the cheques presentation by the immediate past commissioner for health, Dr. Sulaiman Alege expressed his joy for the programme's realisation, adding that it would enhance development of benefiting communities

He said as a public office holder and representative of his constituency at the State House of Assembly, he was committed to ensuring improvement of his Constituents' well being.

While appreciating the peoples' support and trust in him over the years, the speaker stressed that he would be ever ready to bring succour to their plights and further pledged to do everything possible within his capacity to improve their lives.

He said it was in that regard that, over the years, he embarked on several developmental projects in the nooks and crannies of Ilorin South Local Government.

Ahmad, however, challenged the benefiting communities to ensure that the funds are judiciously expended on projects highlighted.

Also, the speaker admonished other communities yet to benefit from the programme to exercise calm, promising that soon they would be considered.

Earlier, while presenting the cheques, the Commissioner for Planning and Economic Development, Alhaji Wasiu Odewale said that Kwara was among the 11 states selected by the World Bank to benefit from the financial support programme.

Odewale commended the speaker for his selfless service and commitment to Ilorin South which he noted has eventually paid off.

Responding, the benefiting communities thanked and appreciated Dr. Ali Ahmad's gesture and promised to judiciously expend the funds for several projects highlighted in their various documents.

They also pledged their unalloyed support and maximum cooperation to the speaker, praying Allah to always guide and guard him aright in his political endeavours.
