Kwara SWAN congratulates Olarinoye over appointment as FIFA Doping Control Officer

Date: 2018-04-15

The Kwara State Council of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has congratulated the erstwhile team doctor of Nigeria’s national U-17 team, Dr Ayodeji Olarinoye, over his appointment as a Doping Control Officer (DCO) by the world football governing body, FIFA.

SWAN in a statement issued in Ilorin by its Assistant Secretary, Abdulrosheed Okiki said the appointment is a well deserved going by his track record of achievements in previous national assignments.

The body hoped that the 38-year-old Medical Doctor would bring his experience to bear in tackling doping in football at the global stage.

"We're glad that Dr Ayodeji Olarinoye becomes the first Nigerian to achieve the feat and we pray that he succeed in the onerous task of championing anti-doping in football at the international level."

The statement charged Dr Olarinoye and other team of FIFA medical officials to step up the game on anti-doping with a view to guaranteeing healthy participation in football.

SWAN recalled that Dr Ayodeji Olarinoye made his name as the team doctor for the 2013 and 2015 Golden Eaglets teams that won the FIFA U-17 World Cup.

The 38-year-old is the son of retired civil servant and former Head of International Department of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in the 1990s, Dr Steve Olarinoye.
