Teaching hospital seeks support of UNILORIN for quality service delivery

The Governing Board, University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), has solicited the support of the management of the University of Ilorin to ensure better quality service delivery of the hospital.

Mr Olorogun Emerhor, the Chairman of the new Governing Board of UITH, made the appeal on Monday when he led members on a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Sulyman Abdulkareem. Emerhor noted that the hospital drew a lot of strength from the University of Ilorin, adding that the visit was a unique opportunity to start a new chapter in strengthening the collaboration of both institutions.

"We understand from our discussion with the minister of health that we must approach the collaboration from a perspective of an institution that is providing services to Nigerians, services that have to be quality.

"We are training those who provide health services and do researches to ensure that our services continue to be the best we can provide."

The chairman said the hospital drew a lot of consultancy resources from the university, adding "students that graduated from it come back to us to enhance their training."

The Acting Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the UITH, Prof. Mikhail Buhari, said that one of the challenges confronting the hospital was power supply in spite of spending about N16 million monthly on it.

Buhari therefore sought the permission of the vice chancellor to connect the hospital to the electricity sources of the university.

He said after studying the trend, the UITH management observed that the university enjoyed relatively stable power supply.

"Looking at the distance between the University of Ilorin and the Teaching Hospital, just about six to seven kilometers, we thought the distance is not too much to get power from the university to assist the hospital," he said.

The vice-chancellor, however, assured the team of the readiness of his administration to work with the new board, stressing "the more the two institutions work closely together, the better for them".

"You can connect your power into ours because I believe that it will help the two institutions, the electricity that the university uses is on a dedicated line," he said.
