SON to Kwarans: Blow whistle on substandard products

By Ahmed 'Lateef The Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) in Kwara State has expressed its readiness to curb proliferation of substandard ?products and goods to ensure that Nigerians get value for their money.

It however urged? resident of Kwara State to approach the agency upon the discovery of substandard products in the markets.

The state Coordinator of SON, Mrs Esther Okon, stated this while receiving the state Acting Director of National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mr Olusegun Adeyemi, who paid her a courtesy in Ilorin, the state capital.

A statement by the Public Relations Officer of NOA in the state, Mr Adeyemi Raphael, quoted Mrs Okon as enjoining residents of the state not to hesitate in informing her organisation? of the discovery of any shady deal in products and goods in the markets, adding that any customer who has post-sale issues and feels unsatisfied with any product legally purchased can approach the SON office between the hours on 8 am- 4pm for formal complaint with the receipt/evidence of purchase of such goods.

She therefore called on Nigerians to always check out for the manufacturing and expiry dates on products as well as NIS, MANCAP and SONCAP marks on imported products.

She restated that aggrieved customers are free to report the discovery of any substandard product to the SON office in Ilorin.

?The SON State Coordinator stated the organization was empowered by the Act establishing it to set standards for goods, harmonise standards with other nations, improve life through standardisation compliance.

She said the agency also regulates and provides certification for products and prosecute erring individuals or organizations.

?The Acting Director of NOA in the state, Mr Olusegun Adeyemi, in his remarks during the visit, cautioned Nigerians not to suffer in silence as the government, through its various agencies and department, was always ready to ensure the right and safety of every Nigerian is guaranteed.

He encouraged all and sundry to maximise the opportunity of seeking redress on substandard goods and services offered by SON.
