Kwara lawmakers probe January partial pay to workers

Date: 2018-02-13

The Kwara State House of Assembly Monday started a probe into why local government workers did not get full pay this January.

Speaker Ali Ahmad said the house would be interested in every detail, which according to him, will assist the parliament in ensuring that all stakeholders were on the same page, on payment of workers' salary, at the local government level.

The Speaker urged the council chairmen to embark on farming like the legislature, to serve as alternative means of financing governance, to avoid over dependence on Federation Account for survival, pointing out that the nation' s constitution allows them to embark on farming.

Also speaking, the Accountant General of the state, Alhaji Ishola disclosed that all councils workers and SUBEB Teachers in the state, received full salary in January.

In their remarks, the state spokesmen for the Nigerian Union of Local Government (NULGE) and the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) disclosed that contrary to the directive of the Governor, Alhaji Abdul Fatah Ahmed, full payment of staff salary has been epileptic, due to some arbitrary monthly deductions.
