The permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Health, Dr Mustafa Abdullah who made this declaration during a meeting with members of the Engender Health Organisation headed by Dr Sa'ad Idris in his office said that the organization in conjunction with state government has commenced free Obstetric Fistula surgery.

Dr Abdullah said Obstetric Fistula refers to a situation where women suffer from leakage of urine after a prolonged and obstructed labour or as a result of contracted pelvis from teenage pregnancy.

According to him, the obstetric fistula surgery which would have cost the patient four hundred and fifty thousand naira would be carried out free of charge at Sobi Specialist Hospital in Ilorin.

While calling on women who are suffering from such ailmant to visit Sobi Specialist Hospital, the Permanent Secretary said the operation which will last for five days is meant to assist women from all over the country.
