HR Professionals Canvass Optimum Utilisation of Resources
Managers in corporate organisations have been urged to ensure optimum utilisation of their human resources in order to derive competitive advantage.
The Chairman, Chartered Institute of Personnel Administration of Nigeria, Kwara State chapter, Alhaji Mohammed Aliyu, said this during a workshop on, 'Work ethics and attitudinal change, a panacea for effective service delivery,' in Ilorin on Tuesday.
He said the concern of every organisation, whether in the private or public sector, was return on investment.
According to him, effective human resource should be strategically placed to have competitive advantage in production, sales, entertainment, information dissemination and moral suasion.
Aliyu said unlike in the past when personnel management was seen as the role of every manager, the new human resource strategy was concerned with giving the organisation direction on the utilisation of its human capabilities to achieve corporate objectives.
He said, "Your organisation as a reputable social outfit is one such organisation that can assist the institute to get a large number of people to understand the modern strategies of human resource, through cultural orientation.
"The continued existence of every organisation today depends on the day-to-day mobilisation of every ounce of intelligence. There is, therefore, the need for all managements to join in the struggle towards the advancement of human capacities, which will in effect contribute to the growth and development of the country."
A former Head of Department, Public Administration, Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, Alhaji Mashood Aremu, said there was the need for organisations to adopt universal best practices, corporate governance standards and distinctive individual disciplines to enhance high ethical behaviour and quality service delivery.
He added that it was imperative to develop management professionalism through manpower development and discipline as well as regulating management practice.
Aremu canvassed the promotion of team work and cordiality with process discipline and outcome focus.
He also urged managements of organisations to continue to promote integrity, transparency, responsibility, accountability, equity, fairness, efficiency and effectiveness.
