Stakeholders Call for More Investment in Education
The Executive Director in charge of Services, Lower Niger Basin Development Authority, Dr. Keyinde Adegbite, and Principal, Lower Niger Basin Staff College, Ilorin, Kwara State, Mrs. Omotunde Oyinloye, have called on government at all levels to invest more in education.
Speaking during the graduation and annual speech and prize-giving day of the school in Ilorin on Friday, they stated that education was the bedrock of national development.
They added that education should be accorded adequate priority to secure the future of the citizens and the country.
Adegbite, who is also the chairman of the school’s governing board, said that government had taken a right step by encouraging private and corporate individuals to be involved in educational development.
He added that it was good for the government and the private sector to engage in healthy competition for educational development. According to him, this will improve the quality of education in Nigeria.
"Government at all levels should invest more in education. It is the foundation of both economic and human development," Adegbite said.
Oyinloye said well -trained teachers should be employed to reduce mass failure of candidates in West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination and the National Examination Council examinations.
She added that dilapidated infrastructure in schools were negatively impacting on education. According to her, without solid and sufficient infrastructure and provision of adequate materials for studies, the country cannot advance.
She stated that the school had invested much in infrastructure, claiming that its standard of education was high because of well- trained tutors and conducive environment for learning.
