The Rector of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Alhaji Mas'ud Elelu, has been appointed the Vice Chairman of Commonwealth Association of Technical Universities and Polytechnics in Africa (CAPA).
According to a statement by the information division of the institution, the rector was appointed at the recent bi-annual Conference of CAPA in South Africa in April.
The theme of the event was 'Achieving Accelerated Industrialisation in Africa: The Role of TVET'.
CAPA holds its bi-annual international conferences in turn among its three regions on contemporary issues that are germane to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). The next conference billed for 2018 is taking place in Nigeria.
Responding, Elelu expressed his appreciation to CAPA members for choosing him out of several qualified members and promised to use the appointment to further technical and vocational training in Africa.
In another development, academic staff of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, took turn to present the findings of their Tetfund-sponsored projects.
The first presenter Engr. Tajudeen Mustapha, spoke on the "Effects of radiation from GSM mast on performance characteristics of goats, sheep, cockerels, layers and broilers".
Abdulrahman Baba Sheu made presentation on "comparison of usage of selected indigenous and imported building materials for housing units in the North Central. Ajayi Kayode Samuel:"Experimentation and Bevelling of Effective Treatment and Recovery of HIV patients: A case study of Kwara State".
Dr. Ishola James: "Impact of Marketing Strategies on performance of commercial banks and its effects on Nigerian economy" just as Dada Olabisi Raji spoke on "Design and implementation of an integrated software for result processing and transcript generation system using PHP and MYSQL"
Adebayo Rukayat Kadri: "Bio degradation of sewage waste water using some bacteria strain isolated from soil and its application in crop production" and Okediran Philip spoke on "Integration on response evolved by Moringa Olivera under condition of oxidative stress".
Other speakers are; Abdulkareem Bolaji "Design and Implementation of digitalised mobile office automation and security system via Bluetooth using Android platforms". Olajide Anthony "Development of Kwara State polytechnic online SIWES portal" and Sunday John Abayomi "Assessment of ground water potentials of selected settlements in Moro LGA of Kwara state using electromagnetic profiling and electrical resisting methods".
Speaking at the event, the Rector, Alhaji Mas'ud Elelu stressed the importance of research to academic institutions and the Nigerian economy. He added that for Nigeria to advance technologically, the importance of research cannot be over emphasised.
While congratulating the researchers, he advised them to make corrections as pointed out by participants so as to make the researches more reliable and dependable.
He also appealed to other staff of the polytechnic to take advantage of the Tetfund sponsorship to broaden their academic background.
Earlier, the chairman of the staff orientation committee, Dr (Mrs) Ajilele M.K. promised to always use the committee as a platform for adding value to the academic excellence of the polytechnic through constant training and retraining.
