Make Public LG Salary Arrears: Group Tells KWSG
The non-partisan group also added that the Ahmed-led administration's insistence that it is not responsible for Local Government (LG) workers' salaries can no longer continue in the face of untold hardship that the unpaid workers, and their families, are going through.
This demand was made known in a statement signed by the State Secretary of the group, Mallam Rahman Abdulganiyu, released on May Day and made available to newsmen.
According to the statement, the group said, "we want to say emphatically, that people are hungry. The unpaid salaries of workers, whether LG Council employees or not, have affected the state economy".
"While we recognize that the LG salary arrears are due to drop in allocation from the Federal Government, the state government must come to the rescue of the embattled local governments whose responsibility it is to pay local government workers".
"Since welfare of citizens is one of the tenets of government, KWSG can no longer turn a blind eye to the plight of workers at the Local Council levels.
"We hereby, demand a transparent and sincere resolution of this economic impasse so to say, while also asking that actual figures of what is owed and how much it would take to clear such be made public", the statement concluded.
